Andy Hunter°’s Colour: CD Giveaway

April 16, 2008 Adam Walker Cleaveland

I was given a copy of Andy Hunter°’s new album, Colour, recently to review. The first time I heard of Andy Hunter°, I picked up a free CD of his entitled Exodus at the first Emergent Convention (actually, since they were freebies at one of the General Sessions, I think I picked up about 30 of them which I took home and gave away to my youth group; sorry Marko). It was also around the time that I was first getting into some of the alt.worship stuff, so I found his electronic/ambient style music very helpful as I was looking for some instrumental stuff that could be used to create a sweet vibe for worship.

I never really casually listened to the CD, but rather just used it for events. However, in the past year, I’ve gotten much more into the ambient/chill/electronic style of groups like The American Dollar, Sigur Rós, Múm and others. Andy Hunter° is a great DJ and a musician, and Colour is a really great album. It’s a good mix of electronic music with melodies and vibes to it. One of the things I always appreciated about Andy Hunter°’s albums is his incorporation of vocals into the tracks, and the single Stars is a great example of the way he’s able to mesh the vocals with some strong electronic tracks.

Andy Hunter° is equally well-known in both the Christian and “secular” DJing/club world, while the lyrics of many of Andy Hunter°’s songs are quite thoughtful and focused on the spiritual life. For example, in Technicolour, he writes: “You pulled me through, into the light. Locked in your gaze / I feel alive. I’ve shed my skin, learnt from the pain / Reborn from within. Reality changed.” If you are into the electronic/techno/ambient music scene at all, I would really recommend giving Hunter’s Colour a listen. I gave away 10 copies of Colour through a CD giveaway, thanks to Nettwerk Music Group.
