Last night we were sitting around the room at high school youth group, talking about the “essentials of the faith” – what does one really have to believe to be a follower of Christ? We talked about baptism, Jesus’ crucifixion and then got to…”God.” We talked a bit about the language we use for God, whether God is male/female/neither/both. Tried to bring up some gender inclusive stuff, and then…Tank (although, I forgot his real name…it might be Jamal) brought us the most profound theological statement of the evening:
“God just sounds like a dude’s name!”
