Sports Fans

February 26, 2004 Adam Walker Cleaveland

Just got back from a Wendell Trojan’s basketball game. Sat next to a screaming woman. Screaming at the ref over a “bad call” when Wendell was 25 pts ahead in the 3rd quarter. I don’t get people like that. I don’t want to be the parent who gets kicked out of their son’s JV basketball game. Maybe since I haven’t had kids and seen them involved in sports, I don’t get it. Anyone out there want to enlighten me? I wanted to turn to this lady sitting right next to me and be like, “Hey! Seriously – we’re not gonna lose this game…chill.” But I didn’t. However, when the son of a pastor friend of mine (who was on the opposing team) hit a 3-pointer, I did cheer and clap for him. I only hope that pissed her off a little. Ahh, the Spirit of Lent…
