King of the Go-Karts

March 23, 2004 Adam Walker Cleaveland

[photo taken just moments before I pushed the Pepsi car out of my way, and zoomed past him…]

There are some people in youth ministry who are way, way overly competitive when it comes to games, etc. with their youth groups. I’m not like that at all…well, not unless the kid deserves to be beaten, and beaten bad. I really don’t care about games, sports, who wins, etc. But if I have some kids who are just talking themselves up like nothing else…? Yah, I like to put them in their place. I had a kid at camp this summer who said he was the basketball KING, and wouldn’t shut-up. So I matched up against him during a game at a break time (I was the speaker at the camp). I scored probably 10 pts and he got nothing! I didn’t care. I had some guys who said they’d KILL me at the go-karts earlier today – and they wouldn’t stop. So I showed them I could kick their butts…I bumped them hard-core, got them stuck, passed them – it was fun. And then I beat them by 20 strokes in mini-golf afterwards. My excuses for my actions?? Two: first, I’m rarely like this; and second; they deserved it.

I love youth ministry sometimes.
