Our church had a special congregational meeting today to vote on the new name for our church. We have a new church building, and so people have been wanting a new church name (well, some have). Currently, our name is United Presbyterian Church: a name they changed to when they built our current building. So, people have been saying…new building = new name. We will be moving into our new building at the end of May and today the vote was held at the congregational meeting. We had 4 choices: United Presbyterian Church, United Presbyterian Fellowship, Living Waters Presbyterian Church or Living Waters Presbyterian Fellowship. After some interesting comments from people we voted. And we are now Living Waters Presbyterian Church.
The reasons some people wanted to change were very interesting. One woman had a friend of her sister-in-law think that she was an unsaved liberal because she went to the United Presbyterian Church – so anything that sounded “un-Presbyterian” to her was what she wanted. Others in our church would have loved to have dropped Presbyterian from the name, because they don’t like how the denomination is heading (theologically). Well…I guess now I’ve been the Director of Youth Ministries at Living Waters Presbyterian Church.
