Finished a long weekend of yard-saling. I think we came close to our $800 goal, but it was a long, tiring weekend. Here is a story for you. We were selling a gem-stone shaper/sander (whatever it was) and apparently, new, they run for a couple hundred. Well, I knew we had it, but I hadn’t seen what it was exactly. So, while I was helping a customer, a man was holding up something and asked me how much we wanted for it (there was no price tag). I looked at it, and (not knowing what it was) said…”How about $2?” He quickly replied, “Sold!” and was off. A couple of my guys came up and said, “Hey, you sold the gem-stone thingy? How much did you get for it?”
“….I sold what…???”
I couldn’t believe it – I knew we had wanted to get around $50-$60 for it – and I just sold it off for $2. The woman who was helping with the sale couldn’t believe it! I felt like a total ass. Five minutes later the wife of the man who purchased it came walking up, and handed me $5 and said, “My husband says $2 wasn’t enough for that, so here is $5.” I said, “Well thanks. But actually, it’s worth a whole lot more than that, and I really didn’t know, and we hadn’t priced it yet, so I’m gonna need at least $20 more.” So…I eventually got $27 for it.
Other than that, I did okay the rest of the weekend. Got to practice my Spanish for the first time in Wendell. There are a lot of Hispanics here in Wendell, so I got a chance to speak Spanish, which was a lot of fun.
Any other fun yard sale stories? Anyone find any real bargains at yard sales, or find something worth a whole heck of a lot of money for $2?
