Emergent Convention Reflections: The Blog

May 23, 2004 Adam Walker Cleaveland

The blog. People often make fun of my blog, how much I get into it, etc. Which is fine – it is quite humorous when you begin to live life through the lens of the blog. But this week has shown me just how important the blog (and things like it) are to our times, this discussion, etc. The dinner we had with the bloggers was an amazing time of fellowship. I loved meeting people with whom I have been dialoguing over the past 9 months. I met a great guy, Josh Blanco, from Florida, we had a great conversation – he is in a bit of a rough place because there really aren’t many (if any…?) people who he can talk about these issue with back where he is from. That is why the blogs he reads are a huge asset/comfort to him.

I am more convinced than ever that the blog is a powerful tool of community (albeit, a different “form” of community than many are used to) – and it can be a strong community. I felt a certain bond with the others who had blogged, and it was really a wonderful gift to be able to spend some time with this past week. Thank you God!
