Smoking Christians

June 27, 2004 Adam Walker Cleaveland

More fun memories…During the first semester of my freshman year at Whitworth, a few of us starting smoking pipes and cigars pretty regularly. One night we decided to go smoke on the 50-yd line of our school’s football field. We jumped the fence, were enjoying our tobacco when a spotlight all of a sudden shined on us and someone said, “DON’T MOVE!” An RA (Resident Assistant) was with us, and there were a few of us freshman guys. We tried to climb the fence again, but the security guard Emmett was on the other side waiting for us. [Looking back on this now, this very well could have been staged…]. Emmett told us we were stupid for climbing over the fence to smoke there. He told us to get in a circle around him. Once we all did that, he got on his radio: “Hey, I need some help over by the football field, a bunch of guys have me surrounded!” He was a pretty funny guy. He used to keep a record (via his little camera) of all the students he busted doing stupid stuff, so this was the shot he took of us. I am 4th from the left (with the hat on), and my good friend Jordo is 2nd from the right. He had us write our names down too on a sheet of paper. I wrote Adam B. Cleaveland. As we walked away, the RA said, “You guys all wrote fake names, right?”
