Crashing Cornel West

September 14, 2004 Adam Walker Cleaveland

Andrew and I had some fun today, something we will hopefully make a bit of a habit of: crashing Princeton University courses. Today we sat in for Cornel West’s “Introduction to African-American Studies.” I did feel a little ‘rebellious’ to sneak into his class and sit there, and it was a pretty sweet thing to hear him, after hearing about him a lot before, and seeing him in his on-screen debut(?) in The Matrix sequels. Pretty sweet.

We walked in about 15 minutes late, but it was interesting to hear him talking about where the course was headed, how to look at what it means to be human, modern (or postmodern) or American, through the African-American lenses/perceptions. Andrew is thinking about possibly heading back and checking him out more. I may also do it.
