Lots of action in the comments here at pomomusings and I really don’t have time to take part in them. Oh well, I can handle that. Life has been good here at Princeton. Classes are in full swing here, as is intramural flag football, Friday frisbee, dorm parties, work in the dining hall is still fun (Nick and I pick theme nights: Tuesday Tie night, Wednesday Western night…here is a picture of us on Thursday Threads night (wear your best – even if it is a sweater-vest), late-night studying and the works…the trees are just beginning to turn colors (don’t worry, you will get pictures). I have a Hebrew exam on this Tuesday which is the first exam that I’ve genuinely been ‘afraid’ about in as long as I can imagine. Hebrew isn’t something you can BS. You either know this shit, or you’re screwed. So, say a prayer for me that my time tomorrow and Monday studying is productive…ok?
Last night (Friday) turned out to be a very fun evening. We had 19 people take off from the seminary and head out to a jazz/art show on the University campus for awhile. After checking out some art (Van Goghs, Monets, etc.) we went to a Columbian music/dance performance at the University as well. There was some great music, dancing there – and after that, a few of us decided to run over to McCarter Theatre to see if we could sneak into the end of a Béla Fleck and the Flecktones concert. We went up to the balcony and caught the last song and an absolutely amazing encore. Afterward, we went out to our buddy Rhoda’s house and hung with him and his wife Julie and Lindsay, ate Wendy’s and had fun…came home around 12.30am. I got up too early this morning (7.45am) to make breakfast with Will, who is checking out Princeton, and may possibly attend here starting next fall. We had a good time (always wondering blogging connections) but I had to ditch him for our Intramural Flag Football scrimmage. Yah, I’m playing flag football. It’s hilarious because I have no idea what I’m supposed to be doing. We lost pretty bad this morning – but that just means there is room for improvement right? (more photos below)
After football this morning, I took my car to STS (the Les Schwab of Jersey) and threw down $100 for a new tire – it was just absolutely COMPLETELY flat each time I wanted to drive. So, that was taken care of today, I did some other errands, did some reading. One of our PTS students who was a 2nd year student, passed away this summer. I didn’t know him, but know from what I learned of him at the memorial service, that he would have been a most amazing guy. He would have been living on this hall…Memorial services can be joyful (celebrating the resurrection) – but also they’re pretty hard. It was a unique perspective to be there, not having known the student who passed away, but I know many people who were good friends with him, so it was good to be there and show my support for them in this time of their grief.
I joined some friends (including Mary, a PTS student who I just found out yesterday is a blogger) for a dinner at a nice sushi place, Soonja’s. It was Mary’s birthday and it was a wonderful time, especially to meet new people and to get away from the cafeteria food. Afterward, I joined up with Nick and Don at Firestone Library at Princeton. It’s absolutely gigantic and a beautiful place to study (here is a picture).
A little studying, a little more Pseudo-Dionysius, a little Saturday Night Live and I’m exhausted…Nick and I are joining some of our brothers on the hall tomorrow morning to go to an all black church in Brooklyn. Should be pretty intense…I’ll be blogging about it…hopefully it’s sooner than last time though. Long week…long weekend. I thought grad school would be easy…?
