Rick Ufford-Chase is the 216th Moderator for the General Assembly of the PCUSA, and he came and spoke at Chapel today at PTS. What a wonderful, dynamic speaker. It’s encouraging, as Andrew said, “to have someone young and hip as the Moderator for the PCUSA.” I would also say that it’s encouraging to have our Moderator spend his “meditation” talking about the benefits of intentional communities, seeing the “sermon” as a conversation, that (when it comes down to compensation, pay-scale, and difficulty of life) being a pastor isn’t/shouldn’t be viewed as a special case, concern for the poor, the marginalized. I was very encouraged to hear him speak today (you can check out his website here, and he also has his own blog: U-C: What I see). It’s also extremely encouraging to know that he is a reservist, as a nonviolent
peacemaker in situations of conflict, with on the Christian Peacemaker Teams, and that he is leaving Princeton and heading to New York to go to the Presbyterian United Nations Office, part of the Presbyterian Peacemaking Program. Thanks for giving me some hope today Rick!
