Har Homa Settlement

June 19, 2005 Adam Walker Cleaveland

This is Har Homa, the settlement that is within sight of everywhere in the Bethlehem-area. This settlement is taking away tourism from the Bethlehem-area, as many tourists will actually stay here and just come into Bethlehem for an hour or two, and be guided by Israeli tour-guides, who generally speak about terrorism as they drive into and out of the settlement. You can go here for some basic information and before/after shots of the mountain. It used to be the only small forested area in surrounding Bethlehem – and now it is filled with the settlers – and they continue to build and are entering Phase 2. Construction of Har Homa began in 1997, after the Israelis signed the agreement to stop building any future settlements in the West Bank. We will have a lecture later this week and will learn many more details about this settlement – so, more details will follow…
