…there was a host-son named Adam whose host-mom gave him a sandwich and two plums in a sack for lunch one day. Adam was grateful, but forgot about the sandwich and plums, which just happened to be in his backpack. Adam had a roommate named Andy, and Adam & Andy had already had some problems with ants in their room, because of some food-issues, they thought.
So Adam had put his backpack in the closet on top of all his clothes one morning before going to volunteer and play with kids. When he came home, he took the backpack out of the closet and put it on the floor and took a nice long nap, until Andy came home. Later that afternoon, Adam needed something out of the backpack and he picked it up and saw ants.
“Shit.â€
Ants, so he quickly ran and got the “poison/medicine†(as his host-mom called it) and sprayed the hell out of those ants – but was still confused where the ants came from. After he had cleaned up all the ants, he changed the sheets on his bed and then put his backpack down on the bed to start doing some work. He came back around 5 minutes later and all of a sudden, saw tons of tiny, tiny, tiny little ants crawling all over the bottom of his bed, where his feet go.
“Shit shit.†[This freaked him out a little bit, because this Adam really hates ants, or spiders or pretty much any insect. Just a few nights earlier when he got up at 5am to use the bathroom, he encountered a huge beetle in the bathroom, which he proceeded to just stare at for about 1 minute trying to decide what he should do with it, before attempting once, and then twice to kill it.]
So he grabbed the backpack, made his roommate take the sheets of his bed and ran outside to clean it out.
“Shit – the lunch.â€
So they emptied the backpack (a really nice CamelBak daypack) of the ants and the sandwich and came back into the house to try and figure out just what the problem was. Adam again killed more ants from under the mattress now and on the floor, and then went out to work on the backpack. While he was working on the backpack, he realized something else.
“Oh…..shit!â€
Adam had put the backpack on top of all his clothes in the closet this morning – and sure enough – there were ants in all of his clothes. So he quickly threw them into a bag, took them outside, and at this point he had to enlist the help of his host-mom, who at this point was very interested in what was going on. So, she stuck the clothes in the wash, and came outside with water and soap to wash the backpack. While Adam was washing the backpack with soap and water, his host-brother was just laughing. And he laughed more, and he laughed more after that. Adam did not laugh, although, he could see the humor in the situation. After the bag was washed with soap and water, Adam and his host-mom took a hose to it, and then hung it on the clothesline. After a few hours spent cleaning and trying to make sure all the ants were gone, Adam finally laid down on his bed and told his host-mother how stupid he was. And all was good.
