After surviving the heat of the church, and the heat of an hour of photos outside, we were able to come into Shadow Lake and the reception began with the introduction of the wedding party and went directly to the opening toast by my best man, Steve. He did a great job the whole weekend, and his toast was wonderful as well. Enough somewhat embarrassing stories with meaningful stuff about Sarah and I. He was followed by Sarah’s Maid of Honor, Jina, who gave a wonderful toast as well. The fathers went after Jina and I gave the last toast. The food was amazing, and it was a beautiful setting for a reception. Our good friend Peter was the DJ and he did a great job handling a diverse crowd with varied musical tastes – it was great. It was so odd to have so many family and friends around; kind of a hard thing because you want to spend all of this time with family and get caught up, but it’s just not possible at something like a wedding reception. But it was so great to have so many of my mom’s relatives from the mid-West make the drive and to see so many of my dad’s relatives as well. And it continues to be fun to get to know Sarah’s family better as well. A lot of great people all in one place.
So, it was all wonderful. The whole weekend, the ceremony, the reception, our DJ, the photographers, the cake, all of it. And now it’s done. The wedding folders in my Mail program and My Documents are now almost all empty, no more decisions to make…and we’re married. I’m sure it will begin to sink in sometime…
