The End of an Era

October 1, 2011 Adam Walker Cleaveland

This is one of the first shots I took of my 2009 Piaggio Fly 150 when I got it in July of ’09. It was something I really wanted when I knew we were moving out to California, and it was much cheaper than buying a second car (and insuring a second car). I loved it. I had a lot of fun riding it, figuring out the motorcycle wave and even finding there was a spirituality of scooters. We had some good times, but that ended today.

It’s okay. A friend from seminary bought the scooter, and she was really excited to have it. I know it has a good home. And it was time – with the baby coming in January, we wanted a second vehicle, because I didn’t want Sarah to be home with the baby without transportation if I was using the car…and there aren’t a lot of options for attaching a car seat to scooters for some reason.

I am grateful that I made it about 2 years and 3 months without any accidents or taking a spill on the scooter. I think that may have made our relationship come to a much sooner end. Maybe someday I’ll get another one – but for now, it’s time to move on to the family vehicle. This is the last photo I took of the scooter today before my friend picked it up.
