No one has ever told me.

July 6, 2006 Adam Walker Cleaveland

Sarah told me something tonight, something no one has ever told me before. It occured during our dinner that she made: chicken, pasta and peppers. I tasted an orange pepper and it tasted really good. I’ve spent the last 26 years of my life actively choosing to avoid peppers at all cost. Perhaps it was their name: peppers. Perhaps it was the IBS. Who knows, but I’ve stayed far away.

So when I tasted the orange peppers tonight and they tasted really good [the orange ones are my favorite], I was surprised. When I shared this quandary with Sarah, she said, “Well yah sweetie [yah, she calls me sweetie], they’re called sweet peppers. Sweet peppers.” And then it finally clicked. These peppers aren’t hot. They aren’t spicy – they aren’t supposed to be. They are sweet. And they are good. My only question is, “Why has no one ever told me this before?”
